MP3 MIDI
MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface. MIDI is not an audio format
(does not contain actual audio), MIDI is rather a protocol by which various electronic musical
instruments, including sound cards, connect to and interact with each other. The music is
recorded as a series of numbers. The advantage of MIDI is that the files are extremely small,
therefore excellent for use in Web pages and other applications.
The disadvantages to MIDI are:
1. MIDI is only compatible with instruments, not vocals. You may
incorporate a proprietary format that can combine MIDI with digital audio, but if you record
such files with a particular format, you will have to play the songs back using compatible
components from the same company.
2. The sound quality depends solely on the output device (i.e. sound card or synthesizer).
